Terms of Service

Clerus Solutions, LLC ("Clerus," "we," "us") is a Michigan company at 1971 E Beltline Ave NE STE 106 #534, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. We make Clerus, a platform that helps Catholic dioceses coordinate Mass coverage: priests and other approved users can post coverage needs and claim available Masses, and diocesan administrators manage users, worship sites, and coverage. These terms cover how you use Clerus. By using it, you agree to them — so if anything here doesn't sit right, please don't use the platform. If we make a meaningful change to these terms, we'll let you know by email or a notice in the app. Clerus is for users 18 and older.
Where Clerus is meant to be used: Clerus is meant for use in the United States and Canada. If you use it from somewhere else, you're responsible for following your local laws.
Who owns what: Clerus — the software, design, text, graphics, and our name and logo — belongs to us or our licensors, and is protected by copyright and trademark law. You're welcome to use the platform and print what you need for your own work in your diocese. Please don't copy, resell, or reuse the software or its content for commercial purposes without our written permission.
A few things we ask of you: By using Clerus, you confirm a few simple things: that you're able to agree to these terms, that you're at least 18, that you won't use bots or scripts to access the platform, and that you won't use it for anything illegal. If the information you give us turns out to be untrue, we may suspend or close the account.
Please use Clerus only to coordinate Mass coverage. A few specific things to avoid: don't post coverage requests for sites you're not authorized to post for, don't share your login with anyone who isn't authorized, don't scrape or copy the platform's data to build a competing service, and don't try to get around the platform's security or interfere with how it works for others. And the obvious ones: no harassment, no malicious code.
Coverage, faculties, and what Clerus is responsible for: Clerus helps coordinate Mass coverage. It does not verify whether a priest is in good standing or holds the faculties to celebrate Mass or hear confessions in a diocese — that responsibility belongs to the diocese, which decides who is given access and confirms each priest's standing.
If you claim a Mass or coverage request through Clerus, you are responsible for fulfilling that commitment. Clerus is a coordination tool: it isn't responsible for a priest's failure to attend or carry out a Mass he has claimed, and it doesn't arrange replacement coverage if a commitment falls through. Clerus is also not responsible for anything a priest or user does while celebrating Mass or administering the sacraments coordinated through the platform.
How access and billing work: Individual users get access to Clerus through their diocese, under a separate agreement between Clerus and that diocese. You don't pay anything as an individual user — billing is handled entirely through the diocese's agreement, and your access depends on the diocese keeping an active subscription. Either the diocese or Clerus may close a user's access if needed.
Your content: Clerus lets you add content related to coverage — Mass times, locations, notes for a visiting priest. When you do, you're confirming it's accurate and that it's yours to share. You keep ownership of your data. To run the platform, you give us permission to store and display that content to other authorized users in your diocese. We won't sell it or use it for anything beyond making the coordination work. If something posted is inaccurate or doesn't belong, we may correct or remove it.
Other sites and calendar exports: Clerus may link to outside sites, like parish websites. We don't control those and aren't responsible for their content or privacy practices. Clerus also lets you export your schedule as a calendar file you can add to your own calendar app. That's a one-way export — we don't control your calendar app and aren't responsible for it.
Keeping the platform running, and your privacy: We keep an eye on how the platform is running so we can keep it working well and address misuse if it comes up. We care about your privacy — you can read our Privacy Policy at https://www.clerus.co/privacy. Clerus is hosted in the United States, so by using it you agree your data is processed here.
Changes, availability, and ending access: These terms apply while you use Clerus. We may update or adjust the platform over time as we improve it. We aim to keep Clerus available, but it won't be up every moment — maintenance, updates, or issues outside our control can interrupt it, and we can't promise uninterrupted access. If someone seriously misuses the platform, we may suspend or end their access; we'll act reasonably and, where we can, let them know.
Governing law: These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan.
Corrections and the service as it is: We work to keep the information on Clerus accurate, but there may sometimes be errors, and we may correct them without notice. Clerus is provided as it is and as available. Beyond what these terms promise, we don't make guarantees about the platform — including any implied promise that it's fit for a particular purpose. You use it on that basis.
Limits on liability: If something goes wrong, Clerus's total responsibility to you is limited to the amount your diocese paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose. Clerus isn't responsible for indirect or consequential losses — like lost data, a missed Mass, or anything that follows from one. Some states don't allow these limits, and if that's your situation, parts of this may not apply to you.
Your data: Your diocese owns its data and can export it from Clerus at any time. We keep that data unless your diocese asks us to delete it, and we'll delete it when asked. We run routine backups, but you're responsible for the information you put in, and we can't guarantee against every loss or corruption. Because the diocese owns its data, individual users don't separately export the diocese's records on their own — access and exports run through the diocese.
Email and text messages: By using Clerus or emailing us, you agree to receive communications from us electronically, and that electronic notices and agreements meet any requirement to be in writing. If you opt in to text messages from Clerus, you agree to receive coverage reminders and account alerts at your mobile number. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out anytime, or HELP for help.
A few last things: These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about using Clerus. If we don't enforce a part of them right away, that doesn't mean we've given it up. And if any part turns out to be unenforceable, that part drops out and the rest still stands.
